DETAILS
Coming to the main story, we have Joy, a professional television anchor famous for his stunts-and-gags reality show and an otherwise easy going youth but when it came to the question of marriage, he always try to steer clear off the subject. This was more than a mere concern for his parents, Sushil and Madhavi who were frantically on search for a prospective daughter-in-law. Initially they thought that Joy would choose his bride from his innumerable lady friends and had eye on the jovial Sharanya, in particular, but they would soon learn that these were only friends to Joy and not anything more. So they started giving advertisements in matrimonial columns of leading dailies and each weekend saw them travelling throughout the city and outskirts interviewing prospective brides-to-be, but all to no avail. Particulary in one case, when one of the girls, Lajbanti, seemed just the right one for their son, a local thug entered the scene smashing up their car and their dream of even entertaining the idea of considering Lajbanti as their future daughter-in-law. In another case they proved to be an easy victim to a fraud who, in the guise of matrimonial services, looted them with Madhavi herself having a close shave of life.
Meanwhile Joy, whose idea of romance and love was, till that moment, quite foreign to him, met Raima who appeared to be a careeristic young lady on her way to settle down in the States. But as they came closer they seemed to develop a liking towards each other. Thus as the stage was set for a happy ending a sudden, if not peculiar twist set the pace in a completely different direction. When it became clear to Raima that the idea of love was not spontaneous in Joy, she left him and made her way abroad and on the same day, Sharanya, estranged from his wicked and deceitful husband returned home.
Now was poised the critical question as to whom Joy will choose as his bride – whether he will propose to Sharanya or wait for Raima? Or will he forget both of them and look for someone else? With this question the movie nears its end with a reality show labelled “1313 Idol” where the judges Suchitra Mitra, Anindya and Rimjhim argue over each option and the audience is left to poll on the most likely outcome!
Thus the entire storyline is themed on the definition of an ideal short story where the readers have to imagine as how the story converges beyond the final page with the entirely new style of using reality show as the mode for the story telling purpose.
